STILLMAN - The Weightless EP Sometimes a press release so succinctly describes the artist in question that it would be foolish not to borrow from it. In this case it's the sentence referring to Stillman mainman Chaz Craik's "layered vocals, interweaving guitars and hook-laden melodies" which can be instantly lifted to lessen this reviewer's workload, whilst simultaneously summing up the striking beauty that is The Weightless EP. Second track The Worst Is Over is Tom McRae and Ben Christophers deciding to combine their numerous talents to compose the world's most delicate lullaby; Born For Show's dramatic strings and Speak and Spell electronica display Craik's eclectic tastes all in one fell swoop and title track Weightless is a layered, spine-tingling work of art. Shorter pieces Foreword and Afterword
are precisely what their titles suggest, neatly introducing and closing
an EP which manages to be both beautifully and technically brilliant. |
