MAXIMO PARK – Karaoke
Plays (03/12/07)
Review by Dawn
One of the mellower efforts on the Our Earthly Pleasures album,
Karaoke Plays is beautiful and melancholy, full of wistful lyrics
(“We never did want the dawn to break” / “couldn’t
you come back home”) and guitars which alternate from sounding amazingly
pretty to unnervingly eerie and back again.
Plus, of course, those regretful lyrics are all sung in a charming Teesside
accent – of which there really ought to be more in the music world.
But we wouldn’t want anyone to think that we were biased...
