Mark Morriss | CD review | July 2008

MARK MORRISS – Memory Muscle (Fruitcake – 11/08/08)

Review by Dawn

The second solo single from Memory Muscle is a mellower affair than you might expect from the Bluetones' mainman – but a sturdy little guitar number nonetheless.

Morriss' distinctive vocals are as sweet as ever and while it wasn't the most obvious choice for a single (Buckle Up Baby Doll must surely be up next?) its organ intro draws you in before its mournful yet beautiful strings tug at your insides.

It would be easy to write Morriss off as yet another singer/songwriter jumping aboard the acoustic troubadour bandwagon but what clearly sets him apart are his unmistakeable voice and his ridiculously well-crafted lyrics. Messrs Blunt and Morrison can but dream of writing such pretty and hypnotic songs.
